ABOUT
Inuit Heritage Trust is an Inuit organization that deals specifically with issues of
archaeology, ethnographic objects and archives. Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated is the umbrella organization that gives us our core funding.
Mandate and Responsibilities
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated under Article 33 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement established
Inuit Heritage Trust in April 1994 through a Trust Deed. The Inuit Heritage Trust was incorporated in
September 1995 through the Canadian Corporations Act. Responsibilities are specified under Article 33 and 34 with additional obligations in Article 7 of
the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
What we Do
We work on a wide range of projects that fall under our mandate and mission statement. We are lucky in
that we have a great Board of Trustees who is dedicated to what Inuit Heritage Trust stands for. We also have an energetic and dynamic staff who works to
ensure the dynamic goals of IHT are met. While we have a broad mandate we regularly support projects year after year and offer others only once.
